34a. Therese Heyne to Luise Mejer in Celle: Göttingen, ca. 10 January 1783 [*]
[Göttingen, ca. 10 January 1783]
. . . I spent a quite pleasant New Year’s Day at the postmaster’s. I did not go over until 6:00, found Böhmer [1] there, a couple of officers from Minden, [2] and the prince with Messerer. In order to play a joke on Mr [3] and Caroline, I summoned up my most pleasant disposition; the fact that Böhmer was there and I thus had a kind of supervisor made it even more satisfying, and it seemed to succeed, as if I were garnishing respect. We played and dined together in a quite simple fashion, entertained ourselves, and returned home at 11:30. . . .
