Letter 163g

163g. Mother (Johanna Christiane Erdmuthe) Schlegel to Wilhelm Schlegel in Jena: Hannover, 15 June 1796 [*]

[Hannover] 15 June 1796

— — For our meeting, it is probably best to see each other outside Hannover. There are simply too many reasons advising against doing it in Hannover itself, also because of Caroline’s relatives. If she is on good terms with them, they will insist on seeing you both and doing something, one would also have to invite Jülchen’s relatives, and I would prefer to spend the brief time really just among ourselves. It is also, I think, best to take care of things quietly and without drawing attention. — —

Your Caroline already has the written permission in hand. [1] I recently received a very nice letter from her, and today I will also write her a couple of lines and send her this letter to you unsealed. For I must eventually get over it and get used to her becoming acquainted with my incorrect writing. — —
